Chevra Kadisha of Connecticut, selflessly founded in 1981 by R’ Yechezkel Schlingenbaum, carefully handles all aspects involved in the sacred mission of bringing the deceased Jew to a respectful and proper Jewish burial.
In 2020, as the community’s needs grew along with its population, R’ Chaim Gewirtzman, R’ Ben Karr, R’ Yisroel Salamon, and R’ Yakov Lehrman took over the responsibility of the ell-established Chevra Kadisha of Connecticut, with the guidance of R’ Yechezkel Schlingenbaum and Rabbi Elchonon Zohn.
This Chevra Kadisha division of Chesed Shel Emes of Connecticut consists of highly trained volunteers who tend to the needs of the deceased, and their grieving families, treating them with ultimate respect, empathy and compassion.
They maintain a personal relationship with many funeral homes, the State of Connecticut medical examiners and hospital directors, coroners, local, state and federal law enforcement and investigative agencies. All these carefully cultivated relationships share one common goal; to ensure that proper respect and dignity is provided for the deceased. In addition to the Taharas performed in numerous funeral homes all over the state of Connecticut, oftentimes within short notice, we offer step-by-step guidance to help families provide their loved one with a proper Jewish burial.
Whether they need assistance with finding plots, or any other burial-related matters, we are their
shoulder to lean on, helping to ensure that all Jewish traditions are followed.
Should the need arise, Chesed Shel Emes of Connecticut has access to numerous cemeteries where the poor and indigent are provided a dignified burial, at no cost. In times of intense pain, crisis and turmoil, families of Connecticut and surrounding areas know they can count on us to hold their hand and assist them in all the necessary arrangements required to bury their loved ones with proper care and dignity following Jewish law.
